The final run of the inning scored with a fielding error by Jose Iglesias. Sox 1-4. Buchholz got out of the inning with a sick double play started by Iglesias, however the damage had already been done.

Buch left the game in line for another loss. His line for the night was 109 pitches, 7 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB and 8 Ks. Rich Hill took the mound in the 8th and while he walked the first two batters he faced, he was able to get 2 outs on a lucky double play. Hill was done for the night and Chris Carpenter took the mound in his Red Sox debut. Carpenter issued a walk, but then got the groundout he needed to end the inning.
