Tito talks about offseason moves

Terry Francona spent a good deal of time talking about the moves the Sox have made this offseason before the baseball writer's dinner on Thursday.  Of course, he was supportive of the moves...and we wouldn't expect him to say anything otherwise.  He manages the team he is given.  He did make a few statements about how he likes the direction the team is going in.
“There’s been years here where we’ve out-slugged people, and there have been periods where we’ve won games, won a lot of games, and actually played kind of ugly,” Francona said. “I think I would prefer to go out there and pitch it and catch it, and if we’re going to be short somewhere — and I don’t think we’re going to be short because being third in the league (in runs) isn’t short on offense — ... we just want to win, and there’s a lot of ways to do that.”
Tito talked about some of the defense problems last year...and no they weren't just Julio Lugo, even though he surely was part of it. So, the increase in our defensive edge is definitely going to help us win games. We aren't going to give away any games this year by not being able to field balls that are hit into the infield...or the outfield for the matter given that we have Ells, Cameron and Drew out there. There won't be many balls hit into the outfield that will fall for hits. And...one thing Tito has in common will all of us, he also can't wait for Spring Training to start.
“I love spring training,” he said. “For me a day where everyone got their work in and no one had any complaints might be boring for you, but it’s a good day for me. I don’t have a problem with that.”
