Jose Igesias Wows the Media

Look out Big Papi, Pedroia and Youk, there may be a new player who will soon become the face of the Red Sox. His name is Jose Iglesias in case you have been living under a rock for the last year.

Iglesias meet with the media today as part of the Rookie Development Program where players learn playing in the majors and in Boston.  He didn't take long to impress Gordon Edes:

I hate to sound like I've succumbed to the hype -- and I want to see him play before I get too carried away -- but you can't help but be impressed by the Cuban-born shortstop. He just turned 20 on Jan. 5, but the maturity is obvious. He comes across as very self-possessed and self-confident...Iglesias is smaller, by at least a couple of inches, than his listed height of 5-foot-11. Put it this way: Dustin Pedroia won't have to look up to him.

Amalie Benjamin also commented on his size and shared this picture on twitter:

Jose Iglesias

Iglesias - smaller than you'd think - said his dad was a big Tiant fan. Excitement about his D, heard he showed some power in AZ.

Ian Browne tweeted that Iglesias was watching American movies to learn English and Mike Fine of the Patriot Ledger tweeted that this was the first time the Cuban shortstop had seen snow.

Sox Prospects ranks Iglesias eighth.  He is clearly the guy being groomed to play short after Scutaro and if his glove can impress as much as his media savvy the team is in for a treat.  Red Sox fans and media can get caught up in the hype machine (see: Lars Anderson) so let's hope Iglesias lives up to his media debut.
