I know what you mean! I also live in NY State. I wear my Sox hat with pride. The only time I get a little nervous is when I go to a restaurant! I always pray the waiter isn't a Stankees fan. The town where I live is the Band Wagoner capital of the world, so last year there were Phillies hats everywhere, but now they have all turned back to the Evil Empire. I wish everyday I can move back to Boston! |

... Lol. I live in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area where the Yanks AAA affiliate plays and I proudly wear my Boston hat and "Yankees Suck" shirt all around town. I am frequently yelled at. I frequently yell back. |

I wear my Sox hat with pride! However, there are a couple of occasions, such as today, where I figured discretion was warranted. The last thing I need is a new mechanic screwing something up so I would have to bring the van back in a couple of weeks to get something else fixed. |

Ha!! I live in Florida & the service tech for my cable provider showed up at my door with a Yankees cap on. We joked about not letting him in if he didn't remove it first. Down here, not only do you run the risk of Yankees fans, but also Rays fans, who are equally anti-Red Sox! |

... Why would you even think about that. Ive ran into many yankee fans and 100% of the time the conversation was plesent, no fowl, no harm. Maybe a tease at most. The fact you would think just because there another teams fan they would do something wrong only tells me maybe you would. Being in my shoes when the Redsox were rolling over the yankees and I see a yankee fan, I tell them "maybe you will win the next one". I only hate the yankees when the redsox play them, the players that is, the owners and staff is another story. Otherwise you cant really hate any other team. If you are, your taking sports all wrong. In real life if any redsox fan had the chance to meet the yankees only a real fan would take up that offer, I would. |

Why would I even think that? I have been on record many times stating that not all Yankee fans are scum. My father is a Yankee fan. I am in 3 bands with a lead guitarist who is a Yankee fan, and we get along great because we are both baseball fans. Michele above commented about hesitating to wear her Sox hat when going into a restaraunt in her neck of the woods. I have had many pleasant conversations with strangers wearing Yankee garb, here in CA and when in RI, too. I wouldn't do anything unethical to undermine a Yankee client or customers trust in my work, however, there are some who would. Just as there are Sox fans who might do something along those lines. No team has 100% perfect fans, Sox fans included. Before I started writing for Fenway West, I would watch a game on the tube when the opportunity arose, and always read the recap the next day in the papers, and then later at redsox.com. Once I started writing for this blog, I found myself reading articles from major media outlets, as well as smaller, independent blogs. You might be surprised as to how many baseball fans out there HATE the Sox and their fans! I have a 'Yankees Suck' t-shirt that I no longer wear. When I started developing strange neurological symptoms, I decided that life was too short to be hating, so I stopped wearing it. I still take a shot or two at the Yankees, after all, they still are the Sox's biggest rivals, but I have toned it down as time went on. And there was a certain, humorous tongue-in-cheek element to this post that a few got, judging from their comments. |
