Gammons Makes Projections on Beltre and Cameron

Peter Gammons

Peter Gammons was on WEEI today and made some projections about newcomers Adrian Beltre and Mike Cameron:

What do you think for Beltre? Forty homers?

Thirty, 32.

What about Cameron?

.270, 25 homers, and the best thing about him is the way he absolutely killed – what was it, a .954 OPS against left-handers the last five years? He does absolutely kill left-handed pitchers. In this league right now, in the division where you’re going to see Pettitte, Sabathia, Price, and Matusz probably three, four times apiece, that lineup against left-handed pitching is going to be really important.

Those numbers would certainly pick up some of the power numbers Bay took with him and when you add Scutaro to the mix the team might just be O.K.  It seems like the team's real unknown is what type of numbers David Ortiz will put up, with a big year out of the DH the Red Sox could have a potent lineup.

Lowell/ Ortiz DH
Seeing Gammo's thoughts on lefties makes me wonder if the Sox will try and make amends with Lowell and platoon him at DH.

Ortiz has been killed by southpaws over the past two years, while Lowell has been solid.

It's certainly an expensive platoon, but it could be very effective if they both agree to take a cut in playing time... Problem is, they're both playing for one more contract, no this is not very realistic.
