Tek Still Has Value for the Red Sox

During the ALDS Jason Varitek showed he could put the team first and accept a backup role with the Red Sox.  Is there any catcher out there that you would rather have as a backup?  Tek brings a world of experience he can share with others and is valuable even when he isn't playing.  Josh Beckett wants him back:

“He’s definitely one of those guys I’d love to see back, even if the transition starts like it started at the end of the year,” Beckett said. “I think there’s a lot of things that a lot of people can learn from him. And him being around, it’s never a bad thing. He’s so great with young guys and he knows to run a clubhouse and that’s why he wears that ‘C’ on his chest.”

With one year left on Lowell's contract the Red Sox are not likely to try to move V-Mart to first.  The only thing that could change that is if they are able to land Mauer from the Twins.  (Mauer becomes a free agent after next season)

I am not sure how I feel about Tek coming back. Basically, I think it might be his time to go ahead and retire. I know Joshie wants him back...because he is his friend. However, I think it might really be time for the Red Sox to part ways with Tek and with Papi. It breaks me to say it, but it's come to be time. Sighs.

Pay him the $5M to be bench coach... Millsy is on his way out. Do it up!

Said so on the 4SportBoston.com podcast today and I am sticking to it!

I'd hate to see Tek finish up his career on a bad NL team. I agree, make him a backup/bench coach- Lugo will get more than that next year from the Red Sox and he's not even on the team.

If the Sox can pay more for Lugo than 'Tek in 2010, then I see no problem paying A-Gonz more $$$ than Abreu next year, and we're only talking about 1 measly million dollars.

Hey Matt....can you delete Louise's comment which is not only badly written by someone who has no idea about anything Red Sox, but also a blatant add for their site?

Thanks.
