Pouring Salt on the Wound

It didn't take long for Red Sox Nation to suffer more pain yesterday as the Yankees advanced to the ALCS.  The New York Daily News also took a moment to point something out:

Mariano Rivera is still the best closer after Red Sox and Twins blow it.

Papelbon, who hadn't surrendered a run in 26 postseason innings, allowed two inherited runners to score in the eighth and gave up three more of his own in the ninth, highlighting just how much the Yankees don't take their closer for granted. Nathan allowed two inherited runners to score in the ninth last night.

"We all know no one's perfect, but Mo is really, really good, "Joe Girardi" said following the Bombers' 4-1 victory in the decisive Game 3.

Mo's hardly perfect
2001 World Series. 2004 ALCS. How quickly they forget. Mo blew both of those. This was in fact Pap's first one blown. Advantage Pap.
