Josh Beckett started off slowly but then settled in to win his 17th game of the season. He ended the regular season 1 K away from 200. Beckett gave up 2 runs in the first and 2 more in the second but then went on to pitch 3 scoreless innings. Paul Byrd came out of the pen in a preview how he might be used in the playoffs. Byrd gave up 3 hits in 3 innings but one of those hits happened to be a 2-run homer. Richardson relieved Byrd and pitched a perfect ninth.
The Red Sox offense got started quickly with a homer by Pedey in the first and then they exploded for 7 runs in the second, V-Mart hit his first career grand slam in the inning. Brian Anderson and Dusty Brown each also hit home runs in the game.
