Phillies Victory Does Not Cure Clubhouse Problems

After last night's game relief pitcher Brett Myers walked past Cole Hamels and said, "What are you doing here? I thought you quit.”  This led to Hamels swearing at Myers before they were separated.

Yesterday Hamels said he wished the season would be over because it has been so difficult for him.  This has made it so that the Phillies have a roster spot being filled by a pitcher that may not want to be there.  Hamels is a guy that Manuel would normally turn to in the series reaches a game seven but that is not likely to happen now.

UPDATE: Myers is saying the incident was inaccurately reported:

"He quit," Myers cracked.

That is a common response from Myers and others in the Phillies clubhouse when somebody asks where somebody is. A few minutes later as Hamels and Casterioto stood in front of Hamels' locker, Myers walked past and said, "What are you doing here? I thought you quit?"

Hamels, who was unavailable to comment, replied with an expletive, which even took Myers off guard.

Hamels is sensitive to the word "quit" these days after he told reporters following Game 3 of the World Series that he couldn't wait for the season to end. Myers said he was unaware of Hamels' comments following Game 3, although the comments have upset some players inside the Phillies clubhouse.

That's classic Brett Myers choosing to be a jerk instead of being a teammate. I wouldn't expect anything else from that guy. Not shocking at all.

And I would be surprised if the series goes to a Game 7...if they ball isn't put into Cole Hamels' hands. Yes, he has struggled this year...but of the options that Manuel has, Hamels is still by far...the best.

Hamels is now saying http://mlb.mlb.com/news/articl...s the ball if there is a Game 7. This is a good sign because without him the Phillies are toast. Let's hope Pedro does his part tomorrow.

I dunno... Hamels laid a big one in his last outing, in my opinion. What about the possibility of the ball going to Lee for a potential Game 7? I think in an absolute last-game scenario you'd want to pull out all the stops, and Lee's been something hot this series.

I would go with Hamels and give him a very short leash. Lee will be available to pitch a few innings but I don't think you can start him on 2 days rest.

Lee said he would do whatever he could for the team, but starting on 2 days rest probably isn't in the cards...but he could pitch an inning or two from the BP.

If the Phillies get a Game 7. Start Hamels...hope he gets 4 or 5 innings...no matter what at that point, turn it over to Lee...and then turn it over to Happ or Blanton and then hope someone out there can actually close this thing out. (Madson...I'm looking at you!)
