Most of the Money Has Already Been Spent

Comcast Sportsnet New England published this great breakdown of Red Sox salaries:

Earlier this month we talked about the financial problems that John Henry was facing. With big money already committed, do the Sox have the money to sign big names this year?  It will cost them appox. $18 million to get Bay or Holliday making their payroll increase over last season's number.  They still need a shortstop and a few pitchers.

What is really telling about the list is that even though the Red Sox have limited financial resources this offseason, next year they will have money to spend with Ortiz, Lowell, Lugo, and Tek off of the books.  Buster Olney may have been right when he said the Red Sox may be looking ahead to 2011 and will be quiet this offseason.

Ouch
Well, that's somewhat depressing... especially paying 13 million and 14 million for Papi and Drew in 2010. Good players still, but their hitting isn't worth anything close to that. 9 million down the drain to Lugo too, that stings! When you're any team but the Bankees, 9 million is a significant portion of your payroll.

I hope they can at least re-sign Bay :-

John Henery's NASCAR Team has nothing todo with it, isnt it his investment firm, losing money.

Roush Racing is one of the top. Im not into "Oval" racing but I do watch the other, somtimes. Its like watching golf on a sunday aftermoon.

Wait
If we were willing to offer Tex something major last off-season the money had to exist. You can't tell me that the low-cost one year guys and increased salaries for a few guys have taken up all of that potential increase in payroll. What happened to it?
