Jason Varitek has picked up his player option and will be back with the Red Sox next season for $3 million.  The team had given him until midnight tonight to make a decision on the player option.  Theo has already announced that Victor Martinez will be the starting catcher for the '10 season meaning Varitek will be limited to a backup role.

Good thing Jason is back !
We really need Tek.
He is the battery to our pitching staff.
Without him I don't know where we would be.
Welcome back Tek!

I know many aren't thrilled by this news, but I am not one of them.

Welcome back Captain! I am glad we get another year of Tek's leadership, in a bench role. I think it only makes our team better.

Im hahahahappy
Im happy that hes not our main catcher. But will still play a roll in helping out.

Jason on another team in the AL is worse than having him catch(I mean Hit) full time.

Look for a few good things from Jason:
1. Will come back in the spring with a flair of motivation, as did last spring.
2. Wont get worn out after a month, catching all the time.
3. When Vmart is ill or tired we have jason.

Sometimes 'business' sucks
I know it's savin' the Sox $2m, and I hope 'Tek realizes it's business and not a Steinbrenner-like insult. At least I hope the Sox FO wasn't insulting him. I'm sure Bora$$ is bummed about comission he's missing.

Glad it worked out this way
This is the perfect way for Tek to slowly transition to another part of the organization (hopefully). If it had ended any other way, it would've been sad.
