Happy 29th Birthday to one Mr. Jonathan Papelbon!

papelbon Pictures, Images and Photos

I know he isn't the most popular member of the Red Sox pitching staff during this off season, but he is still one of my absolute favs.  I adore me some Jonathan Papelbon, so I couldn't let the day go by without wishing him the happiest of all happy birthdays.

I hope the silly fella is dancing himself a jig on his birthday and in my own dirty mind, he might be doing it in his birthday suit.

Happy Birthday Cinco...celebrate it as only you know how!

P.S.  And yes...sometime soon I will post something other than wishing my favorite Red Sox players happy birthday.  I swear!  *winks*

I admire his athletic prowess on the mound, but he is one cocky soab, or maybe I should say $oab, who will follow the $$$ wherever it leads him, and that includes the evil empire, as much as that thought sends shivers up and down my spine. Mo won't last forever wearing #42 for the damn yankees, and you know BC has his eye on him. (How appropriate of a last name for the nyy gm- cash-man.) Let's hope that Bard proves he's the Sox closer of the future in 2010.

Billy Wagner made $10,500MM last year. The NYY have six players making $15MM or more, and Mariano is #6. Jonathon Papelbon makes $6.3MM, less than half that of Mariano, who set the bar which Pap wants to re-set. Over the next two years of Jon's contract, he will probably refuse an extension, because Theo will probably want to tie him up short term for less than $10MM per. Why would he accept that? Unfortunately, ONLY the NYY would offer Jonathon, assuming he is still among the best and Joba's not closing, a contract worth 4/$65. With the fickle Boston fans and media getting on his case lately (shame on him for just 38SV), what would be his motivation to take a home town discount?? I wish the fans would get off his case and start realizing what contributions our wild and whacky Pap brings to a team that is considered staid.

I'm the same age as guys like Beckett and Papelbon, and these days whenever someone brings up their age all I can think of is : "Should've played baseball..." Should've pitched, specifically.
