Bay Watch: Day Two
Written by Matt O'Donnell

Here's the latest buzz on the Red Sox past and possible future left fielder:

Bay will let teams come to him with offers and the process is going to take a long time according to Gordon Edes who has recently joined ESPN Boston.

The Red Sox are busy making other plans.

Angel's owner Arte Moreno likes what Jason Bay could bring to his team.

4 of 5 USA Today Baseball writers believe Bay will end up back in Boston.

Don't count out the Giants, Bay's bat fits well at AT&T Park.

Just let him go. We had him, he more than likly wont hit 30+ homers again, I dont want to see another over paid redsox 4+ year contract.

He did have 30 homers in 3 of his last 4 years and he is in his prime. He is a team player and fits in well in Boston. He is not a franchise guy but a solid option in left. Holliday will be more expensive for similar numbers.

I understand that Matt, I just dont understand what the redsox are doing. Maybe im to involved this year when I normally take what we get.

I feel as if Jasons agent is knownly trying to profit as much as he can from this. Because of what jason has said about being in boston and what hes doing doesnt connect. If he truly wanted in boston he would not care to test the free market.

Get my drift?

yeah, I can't blame him though. Remember what the Sox did to Bronson when he took a hometown discount?smilies/cry.gif

Wanting to be in Boston and also wanting to test the free agency to assess your worth as a player...are not mutually exclusive.

I believe JayBay when he says that all things considered, he'd like to resign with the Red Sox. However, I also believe that JayBay knows that he is the elite player this off season and not seeing what other teams are offering at this stage of his career would be a stupid, stupid mistake even *if* his final end goal is to sign with the Sox.

I think the Sox can get JayBay...if they are willing to pay what he is worth and if they don't try to low ball him. If he thinks he's getting the cheap end of the deal...and takes that as a sign of disrespect, I think he'll be gone to the highest bidder.

Bay is smart to at least see how the process works and to see what his value is on the open market. Maybe the Sox offered that 4 x 15 as a low opening bid.
