Here's where things stand regarding the Red Sox and arbitration. Jason Bay and Billy Wagner were offered arbitration; insuring a draft pick should either of them sign elsewhere. Below is a breakdown of who did and didn't receive arbitration among players the Red Sox might be interested in. Remember, if a free agent was not offered arbitration the new team that signs them does not have to give up a draft pick, this make the player much more attractive to the Red Sox.
Infielders:
Marco Scutaro - offered arbitration Placido Polanco-no arbitration Orlando Hudson-no arbitration Felipe Lopez-no arbitration Miguel Tejada-no arbitration Adam Everett-no arbitration
Pitchers
Rich Harden-no arbitration John Lackey-offered arbitration Justin Duchscherer-offered arbitration Randy Wolf-no arbitration
Left Fielders
Matt Holliday-offered arbitration Gary Sheffield-no arbitration Johnny Damon-no arbitration Hideki Matsui-no arbitration
The two names that could prove to be interesting to Theo since they were not offered arbitration are pitcher Randy Wolf and second baseman Orlando Hudson. If the Red Sox could sign Wolf they could then free up Buchholz for a trade. Hudson is a very good option at second if Pedey does in fact go to short.
